Day 2: Narkanda to Kalpa – Into the Heart of Kinnaur (160 km | 6-7 hrs)
After a delicious breakfast, drive towards Kalpa, a breathtaking village in the Kinnaur district. Pass through Rampur, a charming town on the banks of the Sutlej River. As you ascend, witness the transition from green forests to rugged mountain landscapes. Upon reaching Kalpa, be mesmerized by the majestic view of Kinner Kailash, a sacred mountain that changes colors at sunrise and sunset. Spend the evening strolling through the apple orchards or visiting the ancient Narayan-Nagini Temple.
Day 3: Kalpa to Tabo – Gateway to Spiti Valley (180 km | 7-8 hrs)
Today, we leave behind the lush greenery and enter the arid landscapes of Spiti Valley. Drive along the thrilling Hindustan-Tibet Highway, stopping at the confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti Rivers at Khab. Visit Nako Lake, a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by traditional houses and prayer flags. By evening, arrive in Tabo, home to the Tabo Monastery, over 1,000 years old and often called the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” due to its exquisite murals and sculptures. Day 4: Tabo to Kaza via Dhankar – Ancient Monasteries & Hidden Lakes (70 km | 4-5 hrs)
After breakfast, drive towards Dhankar, the former capital of Spiti, famous for its stunning cliff-top monastery. If you’re up for a short trek, visit the Dhankar Lake, a hidden gem offering breathtaking views. Continue to Kaza, the administrative capital of Spiti, where you can explore the local markets and interact with the friendly locals. Enjoy a relaxed evening at a cozy café, savoring traditional Tibetan dishes like momos and thukpa.
Day 5: Kaza – Key Monastery & High-Altitude Villages
Today is all about exploring the cultural and natural wonders of Spiti. Start your day with a visit to the iconic Key Monastery, a stunning Tibetan Buddhist monastery that sits majestically on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the valley. Next, drive to Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office—send a postcard to your loved ones from this unique location! Continue to Komic, one of the highest villages in the world, before heading to Langza, known for its massive Buddha statue and ancient marine fossils. Return to Kaza for a restful night.
Day 6: Kaza to Chandratal – The Moon Lake Adventure (90 km | 6-7 hrs)
Bid farewell to Kaza as you embark on an exciting drive to the breathtaking Chandratal Lake. En route, cross the mighty Kunzum Pass (4,551 m), where you can seek blessings at the Kunzum Mata Temple. Drive through the famous Atal Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel at this altitude, cutting through the mighty Pir Panjal range. Day 8: Manali to Chandigarh – Farewell to the Himalayas (300 km | 8-9 hrs)
